Berat is a town located in south-central Albania. It has a population of around 45,500 people. It is the capital of both the District of Berat and the larger County of Berat. The old town was inscribed on the World Heritage List in July 2008. |

Being more than 2400 year old the town of Berat is one of the most attractive towns in Albania in terms of architecture, culture and history. Established in the 3rd century B.C by an Illyrian tribe of central Albania with a protective castle, it was known as the fortified city of Antipatrea.
